Equal Opportunity To Be Healthy

In today’s modernized, urban society, it seems obvious that grocery stores and fresh food are generally easy to access. However, this is not always the case. One of our nation’s most pressing public health issues is that of food deserts.

While it may not seem clear how this issue immediately impacts the citizens of Houston, the Third Ward is actually located in a food desert, including the campus of the University of Houston. According to the Daily Cougar, there is currently not a single fresh food market or grocery store in the whole of the Third Ward.

The purpose of our project is to create a moving grocery truck stocked with fresh foods that would circulate the Third Ward of Houston in order to alleviate the severity of our neighborhood’s food desertification.
